What Krillion is
Krillion is a free trivia game in a web browser where the obvious answer loses. It asks you to name something, such as a hot drink or a variety of wine, and the rarer your answer, the more it scores. The theme is a deep-sea dive: every point sinks you 10 metres, past whale and squid territory, towards a trench at 7,000 metres.
It is the work of one developer who goes by kp and describes himself on the FAQ page as a 22-year-old American computer science graduate. The site does not give a launch date that we could find, but the daily game had reached Dive #113 on November 5, 2026, which counts back to mid-July if a dive has run every day.
How a dive works
A dive is 7 prompts with 25 seconds each, and you give one answer per prompt. The clock waits until the prompt has been on screen for a moment, then counts down. If it runs out, the round scores nothing. The daily dive is the same for everyone and you only get one, with a new set each day.
Each accepted answer lands in a tier. An independent guide lists the points as Plankton 10, Too Clever 15, Schooler 30, Rare 60, Deep Cut 85 and One in a Krillion 100, and we saw four of those for ourselves. Too Clever is the funniest of them: the FAQ calls it the go-to obscure pick that is not actually obscure. A perfect dive is 700 points.
Rarity here does not mean the share of players who gave that answer. The FAQ says some prompts are scored against a database of how often a word or name appears in what people read and write, and others get help from a language model plus a manual pass. The top answer is not always the rarest either, because it is also chosen for being satisfying to land on.
What we saw on our dive
We played Endless Dive #1 on November 6, 2026 and scored 320 out of 700, a depth of 3,200 metres. Our prompts included naming a species of great ape, where Bonobo was only a Schooler for 30 points, and a variety of wine, where Merlot was Plankton for 10. Zoinks as an exclamation and Eritrea as a country with a coastline both came up Rare for 60.
Our best answer was to name a hot drink. We typed sahlep, and the game asked whether we meant Sahlab, waiting for us to submit again to confirm. It scored One in a Krillion, 100 points. We also typed nonsense on purpose: the game told us there was no echo and let us try again with the clock still running, so a bad guess costs only time. We let the first prompt time out, and that round scored zero.
At the end, a dive log charts how deep each answer went, gives you a rating for your total (ours, between 251 and 350, was Rare), and lets you copy or share the result. You can tap each round to see more about its answers.
Daily, Unlimited, packs and Puffer Party
The menu offers more than the daily dive, and not all of it is free. Unlimited is a separate run of endless dives. We played the first one free, but opening the second showed a one-time $5 unlock, which also removes ads across the site. Any unlock for any pack turns the ads off, according to the FAQ.
There are also an archive of past dives and themed packs. Puffer Party is a limited-time beta shown on the home screen, with about 10,000 people playing when we looked; we did not play it. The results screen also links to a Krillion game on Roblox.
Tips
Skip your first idea, and be wary of your second. The first thing that comes to mind tends to be Plankton, and the clever swap you think of next is exactly what Too Clever exists to catch.
Think sideways. Eritrea and Zoinks scored well because they are real answers that people rarely reach for. Moving to a less obvious region, era or source usually pays better than hunting for a very obscure term you are unsure of.
Use your own hobbies and travels. Sahlab was worth 100 points because it is an everyday drink somewhere else. What you know from a job, a cuisine or a fandom is often rarer than you think.
Check the correction before you confirm. The game matches generously against aliases, and the FAQ admits this can turn a guess into something unexpected. Read the suggested name, because you can still edit it.
Do not spend the clock. A plain answer scores something and an empty round scores nothing, so type a safe answer with a few seconds left.
If you want more free rounds
After the free dive, more Unlimited play on Krillion means the $5 unlock. If you would rather keep going without paying, we made [Never Heard of It](/g/never-heard-of-it), our own free game built on the same broad idea of scoring rarer answers more. It is not connected with Krillion, its rarity levels are our editors' estimates rather than Krillion's data, and it has no timer, so it feels quite different.
Which site is the official one
The game is at krillion.io. Its popularity has brought practice sites, answer pages and games with similar names, and the guides that cover it warn that their rules and scoring can differ. The FAQ says other people have claimed to be its creator. The game itself names @youareoneinakrillion as its only Instagram account and warns that @krillion.io is an impersonator. We do not publish the daily answers here, because finding them yourself is the game.
