A shooting contest between national teams
Basket Champs is a basketball shooting game from RavalMatic. There is no running or passing: you pick a country, then go head to head with other countries in a free-throw style contest where both sides take turns shooting at the same hoop.
The tournament
You choose from 24 national teams in four groups of six. Group A, for example, is the United States, Lithuania, Russia, Greece, the Dominican Republic and the United Kingdom. The tournament starts with a group phase: a table shows each team's wins, losses and points, and you play the other teams in your group one match at a time.
How a match works
Each team gets five shots, shown as five circles under its score. The two teams shoot in turns, and a missed shot turns its circle red, so you can always see how many chances each side has left. The computer misses too, so a match is rarely over until the last shot.
The ball starts from a different spot on every shot, sometimes high in the stands and sometimes low and far from the hoop, so no two attempts are the same throw.
Aiming
Move the mouse, or your finger on a phone, to aim, and click or let go to shoot. A dotted line shows the start of the ball's flight and follows your pointer: move the pointer higher and further from the ball for a higher, stronger throw, closer for a flatter one.
Tips
The dotted line stops before the hoop. It shows only the first part of the flight, so you still have to judge where the ball drops. Our first few shots all fell short or flew long until we started aiming the visible part of the arc above the rim rather than at it.
Reset your aim every shot. Because the starting spot moves, a pointer position that scored last time will miss now. Take a moment to line up the arc again instead of clicking straight away.
Higher arcs are more forgiving. A steep shot that drops into the hoop from above needs less precision than a flat one that has to hit the rim at the right height.
